Wispy Winterland

It’s Majestic Marvel Monday! Since Mondays can often be one of the tougher days of the week and for many, it means back to the daily grind, what better way to put a smile on your face than to marvel at His majestic wonders! I absolutely love photography! It is both a creative outlet and passion that brings me joy. So, each Monday, I will post at least one photo of God’s majestic marvels I’ve captured. See and be in awe of His creations and beauty!

Wispy Winterland was an image I shot while riding shotgun yesterday on our Sunday drive. With a little too much cabin fever, I needed a change of scenery-to take in our Creator’s beauty that we are so blessed to be surrounded by. Getting out-even for a short drive, does wonders to combat going stir-crazy during these long, frozen winters.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. -Psalm 19:1

Peak-a-Blue Mountain was snapped earlier last year when the freeze had melted-all but what was left on the mountaintops. As we get deeper into our Alaskan winter, with at least four more months to go, I long to put away our snow gear. The warmth of spring and summer can’t come quick enough!

Mountaintop Dusting was snapped before the real snow fell in Alaska. It was a sunshiny, beautiful, blue sky kinda day-with crisp, cool air. These are my favorite. With winter well settled in, it will be several months before we see the greenery like this peaking out, and the heavy snow melted.

Billowy Bluffs was another “from the passenger window” shot I snapped, as my husband cruised down the highway at full speed. Although we’ve been here just over a year, the Alaskan landscape and God’s natural beauty still never ceases to amaze me. The towering mountains that surround us have a strength about them that reveal just how mighty our Creator is.

Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. -Psalm 147:5

River Frost was quickly snapped as the sun was setting over these Alaskan mountains along the Russian River. The pink glow reminds me of God’s light that is ever present and cannot be hidden. Like Him, let us shine our light for all to see so He can be forever glorified.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. -Matthew 5:14-16

Peaked Pano

I absolutely love photography! It is both a creative outlet and passion that brings me joy. So, each Monday, I will post at least one photo of God’s majestic marvels I’ve captured. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. -Romans 1:20

Peaked Pano was shot on another frosty Alaskan winter day. And while you can’t tell in this panoramic view, these ginormous mountains were literally right in front of us, with a small lake in between. I always tell people, “you haven’t seen mountains unless you’ve been to Alaska!” These big, beautiful mounds decorate the state with their bold, white caps and if you are blessed to get the chance to visit, one glance will leave you awestruck at how great our Creator is!

Mountain Breath

I absolutely love photography! It is both a creative outlet and passion that brings me joy. So, each Monday, I will post at least one photo of God’s majestic marvels I’ve captured. When I gaze at this image I recently snapped of a peaceful Alaskan mountain landscape enveloped in mist, I picture the ridge letting off some steam with a big breath in and a giant exhale out, thus, the name Mountain Breath. Mountain ranges, I’m sure, have much unpredictability when it comes to weather and storms. And like the storms of life that come and go in our lives, we can take a big breath in, and exhale out, knowing that whatever storms we face, will eventually pass. Even more importantly though—God will stand strong with us, like this immovable mountain. Here, rests this range, knowing all is well. We, too, can do the same, no matter the circumstances.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. -Psalms 121:1-2

This past Saturday, as the temperature dipped in the negatives, and the sun set on the mountains, it was a perfect evening for some winter wonderland photos. I snuck this one by jumping out of the car in the middle of a bridge, when no cars were coming, after witnessing this glowing, magical scene with frosty swans bathing in the icy cold river.

With several inches of snow piling up this past week, the cold recently blasted us, here in Alaska. Having dropped down to single digits, just about everything surrounding us is frozen-which makes for some lovely pictures. Below are some captures of Jack Frost’s Tears, three of my favorite macro shots I took a few days ago.

Just before the “real” snow hit us in Alaska this week, we made the drive to Anchorage. Layered Peak, was one of my favorite shots of the misty morning mountains I snapped out the window as we sped down the highway.
